lewis h. lapham

Lewis Lapham wants to retire from Harper’s, but is unable to say goodbye. It is good that he will continue to contribute material.

I love to read his work — erudite, fascinating, alarming and disturbing. Often all at once.

I am not so sure about the “superiority complex? argument — I think that he refuses to change to a more easily consumable style. (Maybe the fact that I like to read him, feeds a superiority complex of my own?).

Nevertheless, it is important that the things he says are said, and I am glad that he does say them.
